Research Projects

The EU-project "ECHO" aims to involve and educate EU citizens about soil health, while generating new data on the status of EU soils.

The project focuses on three principles: engaging citizens to protect and restore soils, empowering citizens through knowledge and active participation in data collection, and enabling citizens to contribute to decision-making on soil issues.

ECHO plans to develop citizen science initiatives across EU Member States, tailored to different land uses, soil types, and regions. The project aims to overcome challenges related to age, culture, background, and language. The goal is to build citizen capacities and knowledge to promote soil stewardship and drive social change.

ECHO will establish an open-access repository called ECHOREPO, which will contain citizen science data for use by scientists, the general public, and other end-users. The consortium includes 16 participants, consisting of universities, research centers, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and foundations. The involvement of SMEs and foundations is crucial for achieving the project's ambitious objectives alongside academic and scientific expertise.

In this project, we are developing the Pedagogical Conversational Tutor (PET) - an AI-enhanced dynamic chatbot system. The PET operates as a digital tutor that is available 24/7 and is knowledgeable about lecture content. With its assistance, students can browse learning materials and access information from lecture slides. The system generates the information dynamically from the PowerPoint slides of the respective lecture. We support and evaluate this project in order to provide an optimized system for students and lecturers.
